How Chase Does Travel Rewards

Chase offers two of its own credit cards that have exclusive travel rewards: The Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card and the Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card. Each card has access to a proprietary point system called Chase Ultimate Rewards. It works like this:

Chase Ultimate Rewards

Chase Ultimate Rewards points work much like all other rewards programs, essentially you earn points when you make purchases using your credit card and then can later redeem them for cash, gift cards, and travel.

When Sapphire Preferred cardholders redeem their points for travel, that includes airlines, hotels, motels, timeshares, car rental agencies, cruise lines, travel agencies, discount travel sites, campgrounds and operators of passenger trains, buses, taxis, limousines, ferries, toll bridges and highways, and parking lots and garages.

1 to 1 Chase Sapphire Credit Cards Transfer

Here is the real deal of having one of these cards: Your Chase Ultimate Awards points can be transferred for free to other travel rewards cards. Meaning, if you want to use a different card for an exceptional offer, you can easily use your accrued Chase Ultimate Awards points to get it! You can also transfer unused points to friends. Chase Ultimate Awards points can be transferred to any of these partners' rewards programs:

Airline Travel Partners

  • British Airways Executive Club
  • Flying Blue AIR FRANCE KLM
  • Korean Air SKYPASS
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
  • Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards
  • United MileagePlus
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

Hotel Travel Partners

  • IHG Rewards Club
  • Marriott Rewards
  • The Ritz-Carlton Rewards
  • World of Hyatt

Chase Co-Branded Hotel Rewards Credit Cards

Chase also has a slew of co-branded hotel credit cards that offer rewards and discounts on your favorite places to stay. They range from luxury (Ritz-Carlton) to family-oriented (Disney) and provide a variety of perks for cardholders. Luxury travellers will enjoy the perks of the Ritz-Carlton Rewards credit card. They include hotel credits toward dining, spa or recreational activities when you stay two or more nights and upgrade to the opulent Club Level three times per year for up to seven nights. The Club Level includes concierge services, complimentary culinary presentations and elegant spaces to work or lounge.

The Marriott Rewards Premier, IHG Rewards Club Select and Hyatt credit cards are designed for frequent travellers who want to save money on their hotel stays and can really benefit from the points they earn towards further travel. The two Disney cards issued by Chase are all about saving money for family travel and entertainment at Disney's theme parks, resorts and stores.

Travel Coverage

Both Chase Sapphire Preferred and United MileagePlus Explorer credit card offer the most important coverage you need when travelling—trip cancellation reimbursement and car rental insurance—but the insurance United MileagePlus offers is more extensive and includes coverage for lost or delayed baggage, as well as reimbursement for delayed trips.

If your motive for collecting travel rewards is to get cheap vacations fast, the Chase Sapphire Preferred credit card is for you, as it provides more value when you redeem your points for travel, and the travel partners include the co-branded airline credit cards. The flexibility of transferring points for free makes it the best Chase travel card for collecting and redeeming travel points.
